INGLEWOOD, Calif. (July 13, 2011)—A $70 investment led to a record Player’s Pick 5 payoff of $157,395 Saturday, July 9.
The one perfect ticket in the Pick 5 on Hollywood Gold Cup Day was purchased through Twinspires.com.
The unidentified bettor singled two horses in the sequence – Lemou, the 6-5 favorite in the first race and Dreamy Kid, who surprised heavily-favored Coil at 19-1 in the $150,000 Swaps Stakes, which was the fourth race. Both Lemou and Dreamy Kid won by a head.
In the second race, the ticket had Who’s Up, who won by a neck at $63.80, runner-up Korban, fourth place finisher Gold Medallion and Sinai, who finished last in the field of six as the 7-5 favorite.
The player went deep to catch Sir Hamilton ($37.60), who won the third by a neck, and Capt. Sparrow ($13), who prevailed in the final Pick 5 race. The ticket had seven horses in the third and five in the fifth.
A 50 cent minimum wager which debuted at the start of the Spring/Summer meet April 21, the Player’s Pick 5 offers a California low takeout rate of 14%.
