INGLEWOOD, Calif. (June 4, 2009) — Silent Stalk will step up to the stakes ranks while seeking her fourth straight victory in the $70,000 Manhattan Beach on Friday night at Hollywood Park.
The 3-year-old daughter of Petionville is unbeaten since being shifted to turf and breaking her maiden in March at Santa Anita Park. She will travel six furlongs on the Lakeside Turf Course in the tenth running of the Manhattan Beach. The field of eight 3-year-old fillies will line up as follows from the rail out:
Ultra Blend, Jose Valdivia Jr. up, will carry 119 pounds; Jehan, Aaron Gryder, 117; Silent Stalk, Tyler Baze, 119; Ten Churros, Mike Smith, 121; Empressive Lady, Joel Rosario, 117; Strawberry Tart, Martin Garcia, 117; Fastongrass, Victor Espinoza, 117, and Oui Say Oui, Rafael Bejarano, 115.
Silent Stalk, trained by Julio Canani, will be challenged by stablemate Fastongrass, winner of an allowance race at the Manhattan Beach distance here in her last start when she beat favorite Oui Say Oui by 1 ¼ lengths.
Ultra Blend, second in the Santa Paula in March and fourth last outing in the Railbird, will be making her turf debut for trainer Art Sherman. She is the richest filly in the field with four wins in eight starts and earnings of $138,700.
Ten Churros, sixth in the Melair in April, and Railbird fifth-place finisher Strawberry Tart will also be starting for the first time on turf; Jehan won her last start at six furlongs on turf, and Empressive Lady cuts back in distance after tiring and finishing ninth in the one-mile Senorita here in May.
The Manhattan Beach will run as the fifth race on Friday’s eight-race program. First post time is 7:05 p.m.
