INGLEWOOD, Calif. (November 30, 2012)—After surrendering the lead to 7-10 favorite Jet Blue Girl early in the stretch, Sizzling Gold re-rallied to win the $61,672 feature (video) Friday at Betfair Hollywood Park.

In a race originally scheduled for turf but moved to Cushion Track due to wet weather, Sizzling Gold, the 9-1 fourth choice in a field of five, ended a six race losing streak with a nose decision over 14-1 outsider Madera Castana. Jet Blue Girl was a nose back in third. Gem of Soul and Cougarstown completed the order of finish. Belle Passe, Missdealornodeal and Kune Kune were scratched.

Owned and trained by George Lopez, Sizzling Gold was ridden by Agapito Delgadillo as she won for the 11th time in 35 starts. A 5-year-old daughter of Formal Gold and the Regal Intention mare Rosana’s Intention, Sizzling Gold has earned $222,487.

The victory was the fifth of 2012 for Sizzling Gold, who completed the six furlongs in 1:12.95. All of her wins this year have come since she was claimed for $8,000 Feb. 26.

After disposing of early leader Cougarstown, Sizzling Gold, who was bred in California by John D. Murphy, looked beaten when she was challenged along the inside by Jet Blue Girl, but was resurgent before holding off the late charge of Madera Castana.

A winner in half of her 12 races over synthetic surfaces, Sizzling Gold paid $21.60, $7.40 and $3. Madera Castana returned $12.40 and $3.80 while the show price on Jet Blue Girl was $2.10.

Racing will resume Saturday. Post time is 12:30 p.m. Track gates will open at 10 a.m.

The main event is the $250,000 Native Diver Stakes – Presented by the Oak Tree Racing Association, a Grade III at 1 1/8 miles over Cushion Track. Heading the field of five is 2012 Hollywood Gold Cup winner Game On Dude, who will try to bounce back after a poor performance as the favorite in the Breeders’ Cup Classic Nov. 3. The Native Diver is the fourth of 10 races. The card also includes the $65,000 Skillful Joy Stakes, which is for 3-year-old fillies and scheduled for six furlongs on turf. The Skillful Joy goes as the third race.

The Pick Six will again feature a guaranteed Pick Six pool of $150,000. If the pool reaches $200,000, there will be $1 food and drink Happy Hour specials at Whittingham’s Pub. The pool has easily exceeded that figure the first three Saturdays of the Autumn meet.

Additionally, if there is a single perfect ticket in the Pick Six – purchased either on track or through Television Games Network (TVG) – the holder of the ticket will receive a bonus – a 2013 Toyota Prius courtesy of Toyota of Orange.
