Speedinthruthecity Heads East For Alcibiades

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (October 2, 2012)—Speedinthruthecity, a first out winner June 21 during the Spring/Summer meet at Betfair Hollywood Park, will make her first appearance outside California in the $400,000 Darley Alcibiades Friday at Keeneland.

A Grade I for 2-year-old fillies at 1 1/16 miles over Polytrack, the Alcibiades is the main event on Keeneland’s opening day program. It is the ninth of 10 races and the scheduled post time is 2:21 p.m. PDT. Track gates at Betfair Hollywood Park will open at 10:15 a.m. for simulcasts.

Owned by Winchell Thoroughbreds LLC and trained by Peter Miller, Speedinthruthecity graduated by three-quarters of a length over turf prior to three consecutive stakes appearances.

The daughter of City Zip and the Thunder Gulch mare License to Speed was runner-up behind the undefeated Executiveprivilege in both the Landaluce July 14 at Betfair Hollywood Park and the Grade III Sorrento Aug. 8 at Del Mar. She followed those performances with a third place finish – beaten by a head – as the 3-2 favorite in the Oak Tree Juvenile Fillies Turf Sept. 3 at Del Mar.

A $30,000 yearling purchase, Speedinthruthecity has earned $102,000 in her four starts.

The Alcibiades field also includes Pure Indy, a debut winner for trainer Craig Dollase who is stabled at Betfair Hollywood Park. The daughter of Pure Prize and the A.P. Indy mare Gatherindy, rallied from last to prevail by 1 ¼ lengths Sept. 1 at Del Mar for owners West Point Thoroughbreds and Lakland.
