INGLEWOOD, Calif. (April 18, 2013)—Pure Fun, who rallied from last to win the Grade I Hollywood Starlet last Dec. 8 at Betfair Hollywood Park, will take on males in the $200,000 Coolmore Lexington Stakes Saturday at Keeneland.
A Grade III for 3-year-olds at 1 1/16 miles over Polytrack, the Lexington is the ninth of 10 races. Scheduled post time is 2:13 p.m. PDT. Track gates at Betfair Hollywood Park will open at 10:15 a.m. for simulcasts.
Trained by Ken McPeek for his family’s Magdalena Racing, Pure Fun trailed for most of the Starlet before rallying under jockey Garrett Gomez to win by one length over Blonde Fog and six other 2-year-old fillies.
Third as the 4-5 favorite in the Grade III Bourbonette Oaks March 23 at Turfway Park, Pure Fun will be making her second start of 2013 in the Lexington and her initial appearance at Keeneland.
A daughter of Pure Prize out of the Key to the Mint mare Chelsea Green, Pure Fun has won three of nine and earned $352,899.
