INGLEWOOD, Calif. (July 8, 2012)—Receiving the waiting ride she prefers, Trois Aureole was an easy winner of the $69,700 Le Cle Stakes (video) Sunday at Betfair Hollywood Park.
The victory by 1½ lengths under jockey Joe Talamo was the third in four starts around two turns for the 3-year-old English Channel filly out of the Saint Ballado mare Two Halos.
Owned by J.W. Singer and trained by John Sadler, the 7-5 second choice in the field of five covered the mile on turf in 1:36.25. She has won three of five since being purchased privately by Singer and turned over to Sadler.
Bred in Kentucky by Keene Ridge Racing LLC, Trois Aureole had finished second in her career debut against $30,000 maidens last Dec. 29 at the Fair Grounds prior to being sold.
Fourth for most of the journey, the chestnut filly moved outside for the stretch run, accelerating rapidly when called upon and spurting away. The win increased her bankroll to $112,116. She paid $4.80, $3.20 and $2.20.
“This is a nice filly,’’ said Talamo after his ninth stakes win of the Spring/Summer meet, second to Rafael Bejarano’s 12. “She had a turn of foot just out of this world today. I kept her behind until the top of the lane and when I wheeled her out, I didn’t even have to hit her. She just exploded. John has done such a great job with her. Every time she comes to the races, she’s ready to go.’’
Long Face gained second after a ground-saving trip, a neck in front of 13-10 favorite Lady Ten. The 12-1 shot paid $8.60 and $3 while the show price on Lady Ten was $2.10. Dijarvo and Lemon Hero, the pacesetter who was very fractious prior to the start, completed the order of finish.
The Le Cle victory was the first of three Sunday for Sadler. He also won the seventh with 21-1 outsider Smokin’ Cat and the eighth with 6-1 shot Don Tito.
With four days remaining in the Spring/Summer season, Sadler is second in the trainer standings. He has 22 victories, 11 less than defending champion Bob Baffert.
Racing resumes Thursday, the first of four days to wrap the Spring/Summer meet. Post time is 1 p.m. Track gates at Betfair Hollywood Park will open at 9:55 a.m. for simulcasts.
The Hollywood Park Casino will be open for dark day simulcasts Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Admission is free. The first simulcast goes at 10:10 a.m.
