INGLEWOOD, Calif. (November 11, 2010)—Subsidized will bid for her fourth win in a row against seven opponents in the $55,000-added Playa Del Rey Stakes Sunday at Hollywood Park.
The ungraded race for older fillies and mares at six furlongs over Cushion Track returns to the schedule after a one year absence.
Owned by Mike Pegram, Karl Watson and Paul Weitman and trained by Bob Baffert, Subsidized hasn’t lost since finishing second in her debut April 15 at Santa Anita. Her three victories have come at different tracks, including a maiden score at the Playa Del Rey distance May 12 at Hollywood Park.
A 3-year-old daughter of Ghostzapper and the Tilt the Stars mare Oh Nellie, Subsidized comes off a 5 ¾ length victory in the Beverly J. Lewis Stakes Sept. 9 at Fairplex Park. She’s earned $90,600.
Baffert also entered Mother Ruth, fresh off a decisive victory in the Louis R. Rowan Stakes Oct. 3 during Oak Tree/Hollywood Park.
Owned by Ahmed Zayat, the 4-year-old Speightstown filly out of the Colonial Affair mare Seven Four Seven has won five of 12, banking $211,143. She is 2-for-2 over Cushion Track.
Rowan runner-up Silver Swallow will seek her fifth lifetime win for trainer Bruce Headley, who also owns the gray mare with Gainesway Thoroughbred Ltd. The 6-year-old daughter of Alphabet Soup and the Red Ransom mare Topsom has earned $438,255 in 26 starts.
After going winless in 2009, Holding Her Ground has had a solid 4-year-old campaign, winning four of eight for owner-trainer Bobby Wayne Grayson.
A Florida bred daughter of Put It Back and the Blue Buckaroo mare Maria’s Inquiry, Holding Her Ground is a half-length away from entering the Playa Del Rey with five consecutive victories.
In her most recent outing, Holding Her Ground, who has earned $149,215 while winning five of 15, was a four length winner of the Harvest Oct. 10 at Fresno.
Trainer John Sadler, who won the inaugural Playa Del Rey in 2007 with Lady Gamer, will be represented by Sister Dawn in 2010.
Owned by Ike and Dawn Thrash, the 3-year-old Indian Charlie filly out of the Strawberry Road mare Joi’s Flame has won three of eight. Her bankroll is $114,507. She won an optional claimer on the turf Oct. 14 as the 9-10 choice.
Southern Fireball is back in California after finishing fourth in the Charles Town Oaks Sept. 18. Trained by Doug O’Neill for a partnership that includes King Arthur Farms, the 3-year-old Southern Image filly out of the Carson City mare Hot Moon has three wins in nine attempts and earnings of $121,421.
Worse than second only once in five starts over Cushion Track, Missdealornodeal will be looking for her third win in eight outings for owners Sky Chase Farm and TNIP LLC and trainer Carla Gaines. The 4-year-old Benchmark filly out of the Mamaison mare Bah Bye has earned $93,424.
Fifth of six in the Harvest, Hallelujah Trail will be making her first Hollywood Park appearance. Owned by John and Janene Maryanski and trained by Blaine Wright, the 4-year-old daughter of Gilded Time and the Alydeed mare Runaway Aly has won four of 12. Her bankroll is $117,950.
The Playa Del Rey is the eighth of nine races. Post time Sunday is 12:30 p.m.
