INGLEWOOD, Calif. (September 7, 2012)—Blueskiesnrainbows, who earned the first stakes win of his career in the Grade II Swaps July 4 at Betfair Hollywood Park, will try for his most lucrative victory in the $500,000 Super Derby Saturday at Louisiana Downs.
A Grade II for 3-year-olds at 1 1/8 miles, the Super Derby is the 10th of 13 races. Scheduled post time is 3:10 p.m. PDT. Track gates at Betfair Hollywood Park will open at 10:15 for simulcasts.
Trained by Hall of Famer Bob Baffert for owners Bad Boy Racing LLC and Whizway Farms, Blueskiesnrainbows, who broke his maiden against $30,000 claimers last Dec. 1 over Cushion Track, led throughout in the Swaps, ultimately prevailing by three-quarters of a length over Nonios and five others.
A son of English Channel out of the Deputy Minister mare Cho Cho San, Blueskiesnrainbows has won three of eight and earned $221,242.
If successful Saturday, the chestnut will become the first Swaps winner to capture the Super Derby. Baffert is trying to become the first trainer to win the race two years in a row after scoring with Prayer for Relief in 2011.
The field of nine also includes Rousing Sermon, who finished second in the Grade I CashCall Futurity last Dec. 17 for Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer and owner-breeders Mr. and Mrs. Larry D. Williams.
