INGLEWOOD, Calif. (Nov. 13, 2009) — Flashover, given a perfect stalking trip by jockey Joe Talamo, rallied from third at the head of the stretch to win Friday night’s $46,000 allowance feature at Hollywood Park by a half-length over Made for Magic.
The 4-year-old daughter of Unusual Heat covered one mile on the Lakeside Turf Course in 1:35.51 to win for the sixth time in 14 starts. Irish-bred Firey Red, the 6-5 favorite making his first North American start, ran far back most of the way and could only close for third in the field of five.
Flashover, trained by part-owner/breeder Barry Abrams, paid $6.40, $3 and $2.10 as the 2-1 second choice. Made for Magic returned $3.80 and $2.40, while the show payoff on Firey Red was $2.10.
The victory — worth $35,880 — increased Flashover’s earnings to $241,650.
