INGLEWOOD, Calif. (Nov. 26, 2009) — Jockey Joe Talamo moved Unbridled Story off the rail in mid-stretch and the gray/roan colt easily overhauled the front-runners en route to a 1 ¾-length victory in Thursday’s $40,000 allowance/claiming feature at Hollywood Park.
Unbridled Story, second choice in the field of eight, covered 1 1/16 miles on Cushion Track in 1:43.43, paying $7.40, $4.20 and $3. Dirty Dish Mitch returned $6.20 and $4.20, while the show payoff on Renegade Storm was $4.80. Favorite Suit Yourself finished sixth.
The upset continued a trend as no favorite won in the Pick Six races, resulting in a carryover of $57,763 when racing resumes Friday with a 12:30 p.m. post time. The Pick Six will begin with the fifth race on the ten race program, which features the 32nd running of the $300,000 Citation Handicap as the three-day Turf Festival begins.
Unbridled Story, claimed for $50,000 from a winning effort on turf three starts back, banked $24,000 Thursday and has now made $40,800 since trainer Dan Hendricks made the claim for Thomas Traver and Priscilla Webb. The 3-year-old has won four of 11 starts overall for earnings of $141,584.
Joel Rosario rode a pair of winners and leads Talamo by a 15-12 margin atop the jockeys’ standings through ten days of the 27-day Autumn Meet. Alex Solis also rode two winners on the Thanksgiving Day program.
