INGLEWOOD, Calif. (October 21, 2010)—Seeking a second consecutive win in the $55,000-added Anoakia Stakes Sunday at Oak Tree/Hollywood Park, trainer Bob Baffert will send out a thrice-defeated maiden.
Baffert, who won with Crisis of Spirit in 2009, and owner Kaleem Shah will be represented by Blazing Along in the ungraded race for 2-year-old fillies at six furlongs.
A $600,000 yearling purchase, Blazing Along has earned $6,480. The best finish for the Medaglia d’Oro filly out of the Dixieland Band mare Valkyries Ride was a third in her Del Mar debut Aug. 8. She was unplaced in pair of races at Saratoga and Belmont Park , the most recent on turf.
An impressive winner in her initial try at Del Mar Sept. 4, Tales in Excess was second at 3-10 in her first race at Hollywood Park Oct. 7. Owned by breeders R. Awtrey and Jerry Dutton, the Tale of the Cat filly out of the In Excess mare Excess’s Best has earned $38,000.
Pleasing Sunrise will be making her second start of the Oak Tree meet for Slo Racing Stable and trainer Mike Puype.
A daughter of Speighstown asnd the Falstaff mare Pleasing, Pleasing Sunrise has one win in three outings and has banked $35,200. Her win came versus maidens Aug. 28 at Del Mar. In her most recent appearance, Pleasing Sunrise, who was bred by David B. Newcomb, was third in a $40,400 California bred allowance Oct. 10.
Trained by Janet Armstrong for owner-breeder Budget Stable, Hanakkuh defeated $32,000 maiden claimers in her second career start Sept. 25 at Fairplex Park . The Songandaprayer filly and the Thunder Gulch mare Alice White has banked $8,800.
Completing the cast is Gone Rebel. Owned by David and Holly Wilson and trained by Vladimir Cerin, the Macabe filly out of the Honour and Glory mare Rebel Gal is seeking her first win in California . She is 0-for-3 since being privately purchased by her current connections. Her maiden win came in her debut May 9 at Lone Star Park . She has earned $23,040. The Louisiana bred was last in the Darley Debutante, a Grade 1, Sept. 4 at Del Mar in her last start.
