INGLEWOOD, Calif. (December 2, 2010)—Shortening up after a disappointing effort in the Sharp Cat Stakes Nov. 7, Teddy’s Promise rolled to an easy victory in the $39,200 feature for California bred fillies Thursday at Hollywood Park.

Never menaced after breaking on top under leading jockey Joel Rosario, the 2-year-old daughter of Salt Lake filly and the Capote mare Braids and Beads won for the second time in five starts.

Bred by owners Ted and Judy Nichols and trained by David Hofmans, Teddy’s Promise has earned $55,400.

A winner by 7 ¾ lengths versus maidens Oct. 17 during the Oak Tree/Hollywood Park meet, Teddy’s Promise completed the seven furlongs Thursday in 1:23.68. She paid $3.40 and $2.60 while winning by 5 ¼ lengths as the 7-10 favorite.

The Bob Baffert-trained Queenie Marini finished second, returning $3.40. There was no show wagering. Yellow Slicker and Banana Cream Pie completed the field. Zenidekka was scratched.

Star Presence, another member of the Baffert stable, was the runner-up in Thursday’s first, so the Hall of Fame trainer remains one shy of 2,000 career victories.

Baffert’s lone entrant Friday – post time 12:30 p.m. – is the maiden For the Memories in the fifth race.

The victory aboard Teddy’s Promise was the second of three for Rosario. He also won the first with Bluegrass Chatter and the fifth aboard Talktoomuch. Rosario, the defending Autumn meet champion, holds a 28-21 lead over Rafael Bejarano with 11 days remaining.

Doug O’Neill had a triple of his own, extending his advantage in the trainer standings. O’Neill has 12 victories, four more than defending champ John Sadler.
