INGLEWOOD, Calif. (September 20, 2012)—Turbulent Descent, the winner of the 2010 Hollywood Starlet at Betfair Hollywood Park, will seek her second victory for trainer Todd Pletcher in the $200,000 Gallant Bloom Handicap Saturday at Belmont Park.
A Grade II at 6 ½ furlongs, the Gallant Bloom is the ninth of 10 races. Scheduled post time is 2:06 p.m. PDT. Track gates at Betfair Hollywood Park will open at 10:15 a.m. for simulcasts.
A 4-year-old daughter of Congrats and the Forestry mare Roger’s Sue, Turbulent Descent was purchased privately by Mrs. John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith after winning the Desert Stormer Handicap June 17 at Betfair Hollywood Park.
Turned over to Pletcher, Turbulent Descent won the Grade I Ballerina Aug. 24 at Saratoga in her first start for her new connections, prevailing by 1 ¼ lengths as the odds-on favorite.
The win was the eighth in 12 starts for the Florida bred and increased her earnings to $1,201,640.
Her rivals include stablemate Mildly Offensive, a 4-year-old Sharp Humor filly who also began her career in California. A winner of four of 11, Mildly Offensive captured the restricted Big Bambu Stakes Aug. 31 at Saratoga in her initial attempt for Pletcher and owner –breeder WinStar Farm LLC. Out of the Personal Flag mare It’s Personal, Mildly Offensive was third in the Desert Stormer in her next-to-last race for owner Warren Williamson and trainer Carla Gaines.
