JOE TALAMO, COST OF FREEDOM, Winner: “He’s pretty much a “hang-me-on.” He always kind of breaks a step slow, but he’s so classy he gathers himself right back up and you just have to steer him in the right direction. He did the same thing in the Cal Cup (Sprint Oct. 30), that’s just how he is. He’s so fast, he just takes it to ‘em. He relaxes so nice you don’t even have to grab him. He’s just a pleasure to ride.”
RAFAEL BEJARANO, GATO GO WIN, Second: “I had a perfect trip. I was in a good position and I know my horse always makes the last move. He came running at the end but just got beat by a better horse.”
JOHN SADLER, COST OF FREEDOM, Winner: “This is one of his better tracks. He’s always run well here. What’s nice is that we’ve had him long enough that he feels like family, so it’s a good time to win on Thanksgiving. I was a little concerned carrying high weight and he’s an older horse, but he does so well on this track. Now we’ll probably give him a slight breather or come back at the end of the meet in the ($75,000-added) On Trust (closing day, Dec. 19).”Notes: The win was a record third for Sadler in the Underwood. His first two came in consecutive years – Olympic Prospect (1989) and Frost Free (1990)…The clocking of 1:08.46 was the fastest of the Autumn meet for six furlongs and the fastest in the Underwood since Sailors Sunset’s stakes record 1:07.79 in 2006…The 126 pounds was the most carried by an Underwood winner. The previous high was 124 by Paying Dues in 1996….Cost of Freedom has won four of eight over Cushion Track…The 7-year-old is 6-for-12 and has earned $661,247 since being claimed for $50,000 by Sadler for owners Gary and Cecil Barber July 28, 2008 at Del Mar.
