INGLEWOOD, Calif. (May 29, 2009) — Odds-on favorite Zensational took command on the turn for home and held off Candy Lion in the stretch to register a 1 1/4-length victory under Victor Espinoza in Friday’s night’s $49,000 allowance feature at Hollywood Park.
The speedy 3-year-old son of Unbridled’s Song was timed in 1:14.42 for 6 ½ furlongs while winning for the second time in three 2009 starts.
Zensational, owned by Zayat Stables and trained by Bob Baffert, paid $2.80, $2.20 and $2.10. Candy Lion returned $3 and $2.40, while the show payoff on Best Mon was $3.80.
The winner’s share of $28,800 increased Zensational’s earnings to $69,300.
Espinoza and Joel Rosario each rode two winners on the card.
