INGLEWOOD, Calif. (August 10, 2010)—Zenyatta returned to her home at Hollywood Park today after a short, but successful , road trip.

The brilliant 6-year-old daughter of Street Cry remained unbeaten, winning for the 18th time in the $300,000 Clement L. Hirsch Stakes Aug. 7 at Del Mar.

The victory was her third in a row in the Hirsch, meaning she has won two different Grade 1’s in Southern California three times. On June 13, Zenyatta became the first horse to win the $250,000 Vanity Handicap at Hollywood Park thrice.

With a win that was accomplished easier than the neck margin would indicate, Zenyatta pushed her earnings to $6,254,580. The only filly or mare who has earned more racing in North America is Ouija Board. The English bred daughter of Cape Cross, who won the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf in both 2004 and 2006, retired with a bankroll of $6,334,296.

Owned by Jerry and Ann Moss and trained by John Shirreffs, Zenyatta could make one more start in Southern California before she wraps up her career by trying to defend her title in the Breeders’ Cup Classic on Nov. 6 at Churchill Downs.

Zenyatta, who has won eight Grade 1’s in a row, may aim for another and an opportunity to add another three peat of sorts to her resume.

Indications are she will make start No. 19 in the race that now bears her name – the $300,000 Zenyatta Stakes on Oct. 2 during the Oak Tree meet at Santa Anita. Zenyatta won the race, which is run at 1 1/16 miles, in both 2008 and 2009 when it was called the Lady’s Secret Stakes.
