INGLEWOOD, Calif. (June 7, 2010)-In her final major preparation for the $250,000 Vanity Handicap on Sunday at Hollywood Park, Zenyatta breezed six furlongs in 1:15 1/5 over Cushion Track this morning.
Hollywood Park clocker and morning line maker Russ Hudak said the 6-year-old Street Cry mare completed the final three-eighths of the mile in the work in 36 2/5 seconds.
Undefeated in 16 starts for owners Jerry and Ann Moss and trainer John Shirreffs, Zenyatta will be seeking an unprecedented third consecutive victory in the Vanity, a Grade 1 at 1 1/8 miles on Cushion Track.
The win would also enable her to surpass the 16 race win streaks of Cigar, Citation and Mister Frisky.
St Trinians appears the main threat to Zenyatta, who will carry the same 129 pounds she did when winning last year’s Vanity.
Owned by Dan Capen and Laura Chavers and trained by Mike Mitchell, St Trinians, a 5-year-old English bred daughter of Piccolo, has won four of five in the United States. Her biggest victory came in the Santa Maria, a Grade II, on Feb. 13 at Santa Anita. She will be ridden for the first time by Martin Garcia and will carry 120 pounds.
Other probables for the Vanity are Miss Silver Brook and Will O Way. Miss Pleasant, Third Dawn and Wynning Ride are considered possible. Entries will be taken on Thursday.
Each paid admission on Sunday at Hollywood Park will receive – while supplies last – a bobblehead likeness of Zenyatta.
