INGLEWOOD, Calif. (May 17, 2013)—Unplaced in two previous starts over Cushion Track, Batti Man, a 12-1 shot, gamely held off favored Rousing Sermon by a nose to win the $61,170 feature Friday at Betfair Hollywood Park.

After battling up front with eventual third place finisher Congenial, who was only a head behind the runner-up, Batti Man was able to prevail over the 11-10 choice, who rallied between horses in the stretch after saving ground throughout under Rafael Bejarano.

Trained by Dan Hendricks for Tom Mansor and Tachycardia Stables, Batti Man completed the 1 1/16 miles under jockey Brice Blanc in 1:43.65. He paid $27.20, $9.40 and $5.80.

Lady Of Shamrock Heads Gamely Nominees

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (May 17, 2013)—Lady of Shamrock, who won the 2012 American Oaks with a rail-skimming rally, is among 15 nominees to the $250,000 Gamely Stakes.

The first Grade I of the 2013 Spring/Summer meet at Betfair Hollywood Park, the Gamely, which is for older fillies and mares at 1 1/8 miles on turf, will be run for the 47th time Monday, May 27.

Owned by Hronis Racing LLC and trained by John Sadler, Lady of Shamrock has won seven of 13 and earned $825,400. The 4-year-old daughter of Scat Daddy and the Blushing John mare Blushing Issue is seeking her second win of the year. Lady of Shamrock was runner-up in her seasonal debut in the Grade II Santa Ana Stakes March 24, then won the Grade II Santa Barbara Handicap – via disqualification – April 20.

The Super High 5 is offered daily in the final race and Betfair Hollywood Park has an eight race program Friday. Post time is 1 p.m. Track gates will open at 9:55 a.m. for simulcasts.

Warren’s Veneda First Double Winner Of S/S Meet

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (May 16, 2013)—Warren’s Veneda became the first two time winner of the Spring/Summer meet when she won the $54,250 allowance feature for California bred or sired females Thursday at Betfair Hollywood Park.

Less than three weeks after earning her maiden victory in the Alphabet Kisses Stakes – the final race on the California Gold Rush program April 27 – the 3-year-old Affirmative filly and 5-1 shot got past Akiss Forarose in the closing yards to prevail by a neck.

Trained by Craig Lewis for owner-breeder Benjamin C. Warren, Warren’s Veneda, who is out of the Flying Continental mare More Cal Bread, was reserved early by jockey Tyler Baze, came outside for the stretch run and won in 1:43.52 for the 1 1/16 miles on turf.

Martin Garcia, currently sixth in the Betfair Hollywood Park jockey standings with seven victories, has parted ways with agent Jim Pegram.

Garcia will now be represented by Pegram’s son Brad.

“Brad called me about taking Martin’s book,” said Jim. “He was a little hesitant. I told him go ahead and take him. He’s a live rider. We’re family, that’s business.”

Ciao Bella Luna Versus Five In Railbird Stakes

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (May 16, 2013)—Ciao Bella Luna, the upset winner of the Grade II Beaumont Stakes April 14 at Keeneland, will make her Betfair Hollywood Park debut against five other 3-year-old fillies in the $70,000 Railbird Stakes Sunday.

Scheduled for seven furlongs over Cushion Track, the Railbird is the eighth of nine races. Post time Sunday is 1 p.m. Track gates will open at 9:55 a.m. for simulcasts.

Trained by Hall of Famer Jerry Hollendorfer for a partnership that includes breeders Dennis and Carol Yokum’s Car-Den Racing Stable and Greenwood Lodge Farm, Ciao Bella Luna won the Beaumont by 2 ½ lengths at 7-1, rallying from off the pace for her first graded victory.

Hollendorfer Sends Out Trio In Everett Handicap; Early Post Time, Preakness Simulcast Saturday

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (May 15, 2013)—Lady Of Fifty, an easy winner of the Grade II Bayakoa Handicap in her only race over Cushion Track, will return to Betfair Hollywood Park Saturday for the $150,000 Marjorie L. Everett Handicap.

A Grade II for older fillies and mares at 1 1/16 miles, the Everett is part of a stakes doubleheader that also includes the $100,000 Fran’s Valentine Stakes, a one mile turf affair for older fillies and mares bred or sired in California. The Everett is the 10th of 11 races while the Fran’s Valentine is the fifth.

In conjunction with the 138th running of the Preakness Stakes, Betfair Hollywood Park will have an early post time of 11 a.m. Saturday. Track gates open at 8 a.m. The first simulcast from Pimlico goes at approximately 8:30 a.m.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (May 12, 2013)—Heavily-favored Dhaamer remained undefeated over the Betfair Hollywood Park turf course Sunday with another decisive victory in the $73,850 Round Table Handicap.

Winner of the 2012 Round Table by 4 ¼ lengths, Dhaamer, a 6-year-old gelded son of Dubai Destination, repeated by 2 ¼ lengths for his third victory over the local grass.

Trained by Mike Mitchell for Edward J. Brown, Jr. and Jay Manoogian, the Irish bred, who is out of the mare Arjuzah, covered the 1 ½ miles in 2:26.96 under jockey Garrett Gomez.
